MAISTERRAVALBUENA is pleased to present “Peril”, the first solo show in Spain by Maria Loboda (Krakow, 1979).

Peril and the absence of any awareness of peril.

Like the night before a war.

When all the things lay calm in their place, seemingly immovable.

Who would ever think a bridge will collapse or a park dissapear?

And the silver, the carpets, all those immaculate, heavy things of leisure and distraction, all will turn into stories.

So strange how stories are born.

Out of the vanishing of soothing objects.

It is perilous to dwell in languor and nervosity.

Nervosity is born out of battlesome ornaments which are hiding the imperfection, creating layers of rivalrous styles.

Out of the suspicion about an urgent message and the foolish behaviour of a delayed messenger, playing sadistic games with perpetuity.

And it is finally born out of languor.

This opressive stillness in the air and the indifference to decay.

Thats how ruin can be caused.

Resting in a perilous seat in the last August heat accompanied by confusing literature.

The one which delays your reactions and lures you into calmness.

A war which stopped, not out of fear of defeat but out of fear of success, they say.

Peril is the foolishness of not realizing that a detail is missing.

An octave. In a clarinet.

The details.
